Is this a Great War period SD cap?

Well, after spending the last hour or so going over the link in the Brit and Commonwealth military badge forum and cross referencing it with another cap thread here British Army 1902 patt/style other ranks Service Dress cap I'm now of the opinion that my cap is pre 1912.
American cloth sweatband
Black cloth headlining
Size of peak (the angle also looks good)
Correct style of chinstrap
No top stitch on the outside of the headband (although I'm still unsure if I've understood that correctly as it has to be stitched somewhere)

Yes indeed Jerry and there I was thinking of selling it, but I'm keeping it now.
As it happens, I've had it stored in a box for a good number of years and after taking it out a few days ago it appears to be settling into that flat 1914 look I've seen in many period photographs. I'll have to take another picture so you can see what I mean.
It'd be great if someone could explain the top stitch.
