When i was about 14 or so i was given a book on the first world war,it had the usual stuff,Big Bertha, gas attacks, maxims,Vickers etc.and then there was this story that i read and moved me that i have never forgotten it why this was just another story in amongst hundreds that would take place over the next four years.for me the "affair at (Nery) the famous "L" Battery RHA stand against 3 German Batteries of the 4th cavalry, the bravery shown continuously pounding the germans with there 13 pounders right down to the last solitary lone gun,3 VC'S were awarded for there actions.anyway suddenly today i was looking on the "Great War" page of Facebook yes alright, bang there it was the very same image that captured my imagination all that time ago.i guess the passion that burns inside each and everyone of us here at WRF will stay forever, sorry for going on a bit...................Jake

Here's a link to the Nery Gun and it's limber on display at the IWM London. There's also a description of the action from the original display board.

Many thanks Ned very interesting indeed, sounds even better reading it now.sometimes these smaller parts of history can be so easily overlooked when consumed by the much larger battles and offensives which i think make them even that bit more poignant."L" Battery lives on...............Jake.
