It appears to match the specs for an original, but to be honest I have never seen an original or even seen any good pics of one. I was in the regimental museum yesterday, but did not notice if they had one on display. Copies are made of these but they do not match the features that this displays and I like it, but do not take that as me saying it is an original, as I do not know, though if I was offered this I would be happy to buy it, but then I doubt I could justify the cost to her indoors.

If you can get better pics I can perhaps ask a friend if he can get an opinion on it from them.
    thankyou for your reply ,
i will take better pictures this week then update the thread.

I have only ever seen one I know was real and that was the one shown in the IWM link by William when it was on display in the museum.

This is outside my area, but I think it is good now having seen these close up's.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Thanks ade ,
Personally I believe it shows "real " rust and pitting similar to other ww1 steel items I have .

As I posted previously, I think it looks good, but that is very much an opinion rather than a statement of fact. I like it and would have it in my collection.

I noticed you posted it on the Royal Welch forum. A lot of anecdotal evidence there, but not much help in authenticating it yet, but perhaps there will be. Have you tried the Great War Forum?
    Regards,

    Jerry

    Whatever its just an opinion.

It has black rust, and that is not an easy thing to fake...and the steel of the blade and guards certainly do not appear to look modern.

Thanks , I did post it on a few forums because there is No one with a cledd outside a museum that I can find , also very limited factual info around.

This forum would have to have the most experts in the field I have come across without a doubt.
