Would you know a better way to mount the medals?

You could, put the medal up side down, medal to the top, then pin it with the pin's you used at 0.5cm of the ribbon top.
When putting the medal in it's normal position, the pin would be hidden behind the ribbon of the medal you just fold down.
Just as it would be when original pin's would have been used.
That could be a improvement. Just a personal idea!

Very nice group of medals. The family connection makes them
    much more interesting and important.

I agree with Kris though, there is an 'order of precedence'.
They would then be displayed correctly.........

    Steve.

Well I know almost nothing about that, is there a website with some more information or can you guys explain me how I could display them correctly.

    Thanks guys, it's not perfect.

I'm going to buy some of the pins to mount them correctly and some neutral colored felt for behind the medals.
I think that would make it look 10x better.
