As said, it's too bad the Colt is no longer around. That would be the only way to authenticate the round. Otherwise, it is just a nice story.

As the .45 slug has a tendency to stay inside the body (slow mover, delivering all the energy) and considering the markmanship of Sgt. York, it is of doubt that the .45 slugs are scattered through the forest/firefight site. But then you never know for sure, except the rifling of his famous Colt M1911 can be matched to the rifling marks of the found projectiles...

The round in question, though, doesn't seem to exhibit any mushrooming or damage from hitting anyone(or anything, for that matter). This one looks to have been a spent round that came to rest fairly close to the surface or may have been washed out from a heavy rain. But, who can say? Maybe York Did fire his 7th round and missed? Unlikely, but he wasn't infallible! William

I have been doing it for 33 years now.
I use to spend 12 to 14 houres a day looking for stuff asking locals where to go .
After that many years you know what shape are in nature and what is not.
I was talking to a friend one day in a field after 5 minutes of talking at look next to my foot and there was a ww1 US bayonet.
He was so mad he had been looking in the field for 2 houres and nothing and here I come .
