There does not seem to be a sign of "actual" censorship on the postcard, .... but, by the lack of information given in the brief notes, it seems clear that "all" had been warned that the mail was checked, and "do not enclosed any loose talk".

Peterborough was part of Northamptonshire during WW1.
Northants reg. depot was at Northampton, but the main North/South rail link was at Peterborough.
So under the assumption that the postcard was posted in Peterborough, ... I would suspect this was a "final" letter before the "off" to the front, even though the soldier has not mentioned battalion movements.

It would be interesting to know if anybody has access to the Northants Regt. war diaries, to see if there was an actual deployment from depot in January 1915.

Hi Gary,

I thought it looks like the two with the cap badges have had them retouched to blur the outlines of the badges. My Grandfather was from Cardiff but his Father was from Wellingborough and when the war started he went back and joined his fathers local regiment. You might try the Great War Forum for information on the Northants Regiment war Diaries.

Yes Chris i have all my grandfathers medals and his records luckily they were some of the ones that survived the Blitz at the PRO at Kew.

He fought at Loos , Ypres , the Somme and the Hindenburg Line !!

My Grandfather was at the Somme with the Northants regiment, but I don't know where his medals are.

Lost out of the family? Or with somebody in the family? Without trying to state the obvious, have you posted on medal finder?

Possibly with another family member, I hope, as my father was one of many children, he was the third son so was probably not in line to get them and fell out with his family when I was a child and I have not seen any of them since the early 1970's. I'll try medal finder. I tired medal finder.com and it did not appear to be of any use. Can you be more specific on the site you mean?
