Article about: Bought this ten years ago now for £180 been up in the loft , decided to get it out on display, big dent to top , marked up HS 285 (Makers mark ??) no name unfortunately think its a late war

    Bought this ten years ago now for £180 been up in the loft , decided to get it out on display, big dent to top , marked up HS 285 (Makers mark ??) no name unfortunately think its a late war one, any info would be great

    Hi its a Hadfield steel shell,Helmet is known as "The Brodie steel Helmet mk1",The Helmet was produced roughly between oct 1916-june 1917,then the liner was changed to the orange rubber ring type,glad you got it down,it deserves to be displayed,and thanks for sharing a 100 year old piece of Tinhat................

    I love these helmets. I think they are very under appreciated. Simplistic but iconic, like the M42 of WWII Germany.

    good looking brodie, I recall my grandfather (CEF artillery gunner) telling me that the dents were often caused by soldiers using the helmet as a hammer for tent pegs. His brodie was very similar to yours, dents and all.
