Default Pattern 1888 Bayonet Marked to Royal Marines

Hi all. This was one of my first bayonets and thought it may be of interest. As you can see, condition is poor, but I like this MK1 Type II bayonet for the fact that it is marked up to the Royal Marines. It also has a small N indicating naval issue on the opposite side of the pommel but it is not very clear. While this could of course have been issued to them prior to WW1, I have seen one other that was supposed to have been issued during the War when there were not enough SMLEs to go around. I had always thought they saw no frontline service but further research shows that they did.

Displayed with is it a 77mm trench art shell case with Lord Nelson on one side and Somme, 1916, Ginchy on the other. Whether this relates to the Royal Marines or Royal Naval Division I can't say for sure, but I thought it was fitting.
