No, sorry. I would advise posting anything of that kind of date in this part of the forum. Not ideal, but the nearest we have to that kind of timeline.

    Cheers, Ade.

6 button fatigue jacket with 1907 sergeants sleeve insignia and artillery shell designation all in red for artillery and 4 year service stripe. Old stock 1900 jacket apparently issued to coastal artillery. Not unusual for troops not considered front line.
Civil war fatigue jacket had 4 buttons.
    Indian war ( 1870 - 1898 ) 5 buttons.
I am a little fuzzy on post Span Am and pre WWI period US stuff. I could be wrong.

i found this jacket one day as i was driving to work, i saw it hanging in a tree at a yardsale. When i saw it from the road i thought it was a coastguard uniform, but as i got closer i relized it was a coastal artillary man's uniform jacket. Here is the thing though, i've looked the uniform completely over finding all sorts of clues on it. The button holes are hand stitched and so is the collar and cuffs. Inside the arms there was stamped the unit and on the other inside sleeve had the soldiers name. But is it real, or is it a really good repro for some re-enactor?

John W. Spainhour was a Cpl Gunner First Class, and only did a three year enlistment.

This probably isn't the place, but since the forum is about education...
Uniforms during the American Civil War varied greatly. There were shell jackets that had 4 buttons, but for the Union, one of the most common "jacket" was the 9-button frock coat. This young soldier is from the 25th Ohio. Photo was taken in Columbus, OH in 1866 after they mustered out and were issued there state medals. I apologize if this is too far off topic.

I have found this site particularly helpful on odd US Civil War artifacts.
