No, flatly - looks like a Polo helmet actually. There was a very similar RAF helmet known as the 'A Type' East of Malta. The Helmet, Cork, Aviation (22C/13)
There is nothign to say someone didn't fly with this helmet but it is not an official Air Ministry or South African air force isue.

thanks for answers guys this is the sellers description
A hard to find very early R.A.F A-Type flying helmet issued in 1920 & in great original condition. These early pithe flying helmets were issued to R.A.F crews operating east of Malta in open cockpit aircraft. There were not so many issued as the onset of faster aircraft & closed cockpit flying led to the leather A-Type flying helmet being introduced. The interior is immaculate & the 2 earpiece holding chin straps are in place & in good condition also. Unsure of the squadron badge on the front of the helmet, the interior bears the manufacturers label Royal Letters Patent No 207475 who supplied these helmets to the R.A.F. Replaced by ww2 these early flying helmets are a very worthwhile investment for the avaition collectors.
