well it landed today, the buttons are different that go on the front the detached one is rfc and the other is army,, rgds Dave
Hi Dave, a slight problem here in that case. The RASC button is post WW1: during the Great War they were the ASC, as the Royal title was not confered until after the war.

My initial thoughts were that the RASC button had been added as a "replacement" or retained by the original owner from his previous unit, but, when Ade raised the question of RASC formation date etc, I had another, closer, look and then I realised that there is actually a "GVIR" monogram in the middle of it, this therefore, puts the button at least, in the timescale of 1936>1952!
Interesting conundrum that I think!
