Unknown french war plaque

Article about: Does anyone know what this plaque is. I don't think it's a grave marker. Could someone have removed it from a wall in france. It is 10" x 8". Thanks for any info

    I forgot to mention it is stone perhaps granite.

    It looks like something from my research to be from Norte Dame to honor the soldiers

    Great detective work there Phil...a thread to now pull on...

    ...but to take it too the next level. Probably not Notre Dame but maybe (?) a bombed out church is France? Couldn't see someone ripping this off a wall of a standing church but maybe one that was in ruin....??? Conjecture of course. But that is the fun part of a mystery.

    If you look at the plagues that ND stands for Notre Dame. But I'm not French! C'est la vie!!!

    I could not also imagine someone taking these.
