What exactly is this HOLSTER?

My holster has stamped unit markings on the outside of the flap, as you can see, and it also has inked unit markings on the inside of the flap. Yours, as has been said, is probably un-issued. Right about the time this one was dated, they were pretty much getting into the new Colt 45 Auto's, and so this revolver holster may well have never been used.

This would make a lot of sense being unissued and all. The Colt 1911 left the revolver in the dust, so to speak. I find it slick that after nearly a century this holster is in excellent condition. Thanks for you posts and observations. Much help, learned quite a bit about this.
