ww1 era large march with black armbands

As I mentioned above, the Derby scheme armbands had on one of the versions a GR either side of a crown so perhaps it is an ad hoc unofficial version.

If you do a google search you will find this type -below-, though the type you show looks a better match to that pictured.

Here is another one that matches that in your picture, from November 1914 and for the VTC as you suggested, the version I showed is a later version from January 1917 for the VF and the classic Derby scheme armband from October 1915 is just the crown. So strictly speaking you were correct. It just shows that doing a general search might not given accurate answers and I would hate to be perpetuating incorrect information.
