    Default WW1 sergeant's diary - Belleau Wood - US Marines (1918)

I have this diary, probably written by US Marine sergeant in the apocalyptic days in the Chateau-Thierry Region.

Does anyone had idea how I could identify the author of the diary? His name is not written, and I am not sure where I can find list of the companies from that time...

felipe11: I'm late getting to this thread, but I hope this will be useful to you. According to Battle Participation of Organizations of the American Expeditionary Forces in France, Belgium, and Italy (GPO1920) the 6th Marine Regiment consisted of: 1st Batt. Companies 74th, 75th, 76th & 95th; 2nd Batt. Companies 78th, 79th, 80th & 96th; 3rd Batt. Companies 82nd, 83rd, 84th & 97th. The regiment was in the Aisne Defensive Sector, 31 May-5 June 1918 and the Chateau-Thierry Sector, 6 June-9 July 1918. Hope this helps. Dwight

An amazing piece of personal history of a kind we no longer have due to the "advances" in technology. Treasure this one. Thanks for sharing. Jim G.

The 5th Marines were attached to the US Army 2nd ID and took heavy casualties in bitter close combat at Belleau Wood.
