Here is another Item I bought this past weekend ( it was a very good weekend!!!)
A WW1 (What I call ) Trench Cap, I have been told it is the 1904/5 Pattern as well as the 1916 pattern, whichever it is, it will fit nicely with the collection, the problem now is, I have so many WW2 Hats I have run out of room in my display cases, so I may let one of the others go.

    CampX,

    Nice cap.

Technically its neither the 04/05 or 1916 pattern.

By nomenclature it is still called a Service Dress Cap. and more often than not in official documents it's called the "Soft' Service Dress Cap in official documents

Your pattern dates from 19 March 1918 by material used (RACD Pattern 9847/1918). It was also inspected by viewer number 50 at Pimlico Clothing Depot before the end of the war.

Here is info on the various "Soft" Service Dress Patterns

    "Soft" Service Dress Cap
RACD Pattern Number; Date of Approval; Nomenclature; Nature of Change; Obsolete

8706/1916; 11-Mar-16; Cap, soft, Service Dress Approval of First Pattern, Details confused with next pattern--probably had sweatband of American cloth (Constructed like Stiff Service Dress cap being only fixed at the bottom.

9066/1916; Jun (?) 1916; Cap, soft, Service Dress Information on this Pattern were indeterminate, but probably introduced flannel sweatband.

9738/1917; 28-Nov-17; Cap, soft, Service Dress Modification of Pattern, replaced the headband flannel with “American Cloth" fixed at top and bottom.

9783/1917; 19-Dec-17; Cap, soft, Service Dress Gabardine; alternate pattern; 3-Sep-21

9847/1918; 19-Mar-18; Cap, soft, Service Dress "Gabardine"; Modification of Pattern 9783: cotton lining in lieu of “American Cloth and flannel".

3084/1918; 22-Oct-18; Cap, soft, Service Dress; "Committee Approved" alternative to pattern 9738
