This is probably a souvenir of the battlefield 'tourists' who revisited old haunts and remembered the fallen. The military pictures were taken at the time and the reconstruction pictures considerably after the war had stopped. I can't remember when the Cloth Hall was finished, it may have been after ww2. It would be nice to have the negatives which i would imagine were glass.

I thought it was a souvenir collection, but I managed to look on the back of some of the photographs and some of them say 'Crown Copyright do not duplicate' and a couple even states the newspaper they are associated with, while others have no markings at all. so its all rather confusing and interesting. Can only assume my great grandad (who was wounded at the somme) picked these up.

The picture of the Cloth Hall is of it being fixed and that was taken in 1915. So I assume it was damaged then destroyed, as it was a ruin after the war ended.

Would love to get more opinions on the photos. As I plan to take these to a memorabilia expert and find out what they say.
