WWI medal, from where, please?

I just got this as a gift from my aunt. Does anyone know about it? I tried to research it, but had a lot of trouble. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't expect anyone to do research for me, but if you recognize it, please tell me what it is for. the dates are from 1914-1918, and there is a hole at the top for a suspension ring and ribbon, maybe .
