Thumbs up WWI US Purple Heart Grouping

    Hello,
I love to collect Purple Heart groupings. Here is a grouping for a Purple Heart that was awarded for wounds obtained in 1918 during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. The gentleman lost his right leg as a result. As you know the purple Heart was not available in WWI and had to be applied for after it was adopted by the US Congress in 1932. In this case, the award was sent out on December 28, 1943 (during WWII).

Here is a link to where Mr. Cowalski is buried: Clarence C Cowalski, Jr (1892 - 1957) - Find A Grave Memorial

    Regards,
    Jody

Here are other items that also belonged to Mr. Cowalski. There is a great WWI Victory Medal in the grouping.

Wonderful grouping, Jody! Thanks for sharing!

Here is Cowalski's headstone application. Doesn't add information beyond what you already have, but thought I would share it with you to keep with the group.

    Tango,
Here's a good reference site for the Purple Heart, including visual aides that show the different brooch types and engraving styles:
