WWI US Uniform Buttons

Does this button look legitimate to you guys?
I have never seen one like this.
The owner told me that the buttons are bakelite US Army buttons.

This button looks to be 100% authentic not one that I have seen before though

My guess is that the rear attaching post broke off, and the thrifty owner
of the jacket or coat drilled holes to keep the correct and matching
type of button.........
