Hi Kevin
Nice cap. May well be wartime made but earlier rather than later I reckon.
The logo on the sweatband will help date it better as it will indicate if the cap was made before or after erel got their patent.
hope that helps
cheers
Tony
Hey Tony,
Thanks for the info.
What should I be looking for on the sweatband just the Erel name again.
Cheers.
Kev.
A nice, clean example.
Hi Kevin
It's all in a word.
If you look at the Erel info embossed on the LHS of the sweatband it will say something like " Erel Stirnschutz" then underneath either DRP or DRGM. This refers to the patent on the system Lubstein used to keep the forehead free of pressure from the cap and thus prevent the unsightly red mark across the front of the head when you took the cap off.
Here's the main bit ......If it says Angem underneath the letters then this means the patent is pending and so helps possibly date the cap before 1940 which is when I think the patent was granted (may be wrong on that date).....
That all said it is only guide not a definitive answer.
cheers
Tony
Tony, thanks very much for that info, much obliged.
I've checked the cap and it says " Erel Stirnschutz Patent" there's no DRP or DRGM
Kev.
Hi Kev,
Wartime visor it probably is then ! 1943 may be about right........................
cheers
Tony
