That is correct--he is wearing the "57er" ribbon bar, so the pic was taken after the re-insitution of the TR awards in "proper" form.
I posted this to show that what one thinks is a period photo is not always such, and while this one does not show any headgear anomalies, there are others that do (which I will add to this thread when I find them)

Holding a general officer rank was no guarantee of being awarded the Ritterkreuz. I would think that there were more general officers who served in the rear than those who served in combat. Many years ago, I owned the uniform and decorations of a gerealleutnant of panzer who served in combat on the Finnish front and he had no Ritterkreuz.by heyst56

and our man here was a general for rail ways, i.e. the Etappe. I celebrate railways and the military, and look back with great fondness on my time in such a role. It was like Christmas.
