    Default Army Officials EREL Schirmmütze

Hi everyone, just finished restoring this cap which I bought on E-stand on the Wehrmacht Awards Forum for £116 (minus the insignia shown here). As you can see it is made by EREL and piped in dark green for army officials. From the lining, it would appear to have been originally intended for an NCO and then upgraded with officers chincord.

The cap was quiet moth damaged, but the damage was largely confined to the front and one side (the lining has also suffered a bit). The insignia had originally been metal but I was able to hide the large hole in the front completely with a larger bullion eagle, and the original metal eagle had difficulty attaching due to the damaged cloth. I then replaced the metal cokade with a bullion one to match. I have then sewn some little bits of green wool into the other moth holes which hides them very well except on close inspection. I am now displaying it with my infantry officers tunic.

Outstanding work! it's very difficult to repair such big moth holes and you've done an amazing job.

    Great photos too!
How did you create such a black background if you don't mind me asking?

Yes, bullion insignia can be very beautiful. I am also very impressed with the quality of the cap and how light weight it is compared with issue caps.

Ben, I appreciate your comments. There has been quiet a few hours work involved in this! The cap is photographed against a black sheet and then darkened further using the burn tool in Photoshop.
