Hello Wim,
I think stonemint pointed it out: a cap with white pipings (which, as you correctly stated, should be light grey) indicate NCO/EM so that the leather chinstrap should be on the cap. Officers' caps with silvery cap cords should have the silvery Gespinstlitze piping. But I must admit that I am confused a bit by this specimen, too.

Unfortunately I was outbid on the visor and will have to wait for another opportunity.

Wim I was referring to the fact that the chincord was possibly added postwar to make it into an "officer" visor.
“Show me the regulation, and I’ll show you the exception.”

Sorry, I misunderstood apparently. So, replace the chincord into a leather strap
and the cap is back in order! Or is there more?
