Everything is possible in late-war hats. In this case I'm not too sure as these curved seams are caused by the templates which are curved at the front seam to produce a more "bulgy" front (for which some padding would have been necessary, without padding one gets a "flat" front - perhaps this explains the late war Schellenbergs - curved seam, but no more [sufficient] padding for lack of materials.) Cp. the two different templates for the Seitenteile below:
