Back in the days of plenty, I would always collect the quality. At times, I might buy a cap that showed honest wear. However, I was always looking to upgrade the quality of anything in the collection. I would never buy a mothed or heavily damaged cap just for the waffenfarbe. Today's market place is more difficult for the collector building a collection. I would always caution that a cap in poor condition will over time only get worse. A pristeen example with proper conservation, will always remain pristeen.

I would select the Officer's Artillery cap out of preference for quality, maker rarity holds no consequence for me. The bullion wreath is icing on the cake.

I see poor quality, moth-ridden junk get bid up on Ebay all the time, when, for a few hundred bucks more, one could get the same hat in almost mint condition. Go figure.
