And COAs can be faked.............
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
Thanks for all the answers.
I know that some collectors rather want a hands-on inspection, but I had a time limit to check the items.
Instead of sending the items to the US and wait for them to come back, I decided to go to a professional photograper for high definition photos.
Kelly Hicks based his opinion on these photos, that's true.
However, he was pretty sure about the originality on this cap when he got the photos.
He didn't ask for more detail photos of the cap, so the photos I have were enough.
(The photos of my ss cover weren't enough, so I had to get back to the photographer for more detailed shots)
For the COA's: I kept the original envelope in which they were sent instead someone would't believe they're original.
A real certificate for a "paper" cap is very light to me...
I know but like I said I had a time limit to check the originality before I would buy it.
The seller gave me 2 months.
It takes about 3-4 weeks to ship an item from the Netherlands to the US.
Based on my experience from buying items in the US it takes longer 4-5 weeks to ship an item to the Netherlands.
Thus sending photos was the only option for me, cause I didn't bought it yet.
I know Kelly Hicks is a great name/ expert in this collecting field, so I'm sure he is right when he says something is original.
I understand the concerns about the fact that Hicks' opinion is based on photos, because these are rare and valuable items.
However, I tried to do my best in the 2 months to be sure about originality.
When he said it was original I know that I can trust on his opinion (based on his knowledge/ experience).
Given your circumstances, I think you did as best you could. Well done!
looks original to me
This cap is now in the for sale section
And to add to this thread, the cap was also posted on the GHW forum, where Lenny W called it as a fake cap.
Passing the info along for any future buyers to ponder....
