I have a meeting with him next week, and hope to obtain the remainder of the items he brought back.He saw a flyer that morning for the show, drove home and came back with a box of goodies.Fair prices were paid..of course i am now sleeping in the shed with a space heater..

He cut many an SS tunic up for insignia, but his wife made him throw it all out years ago as she didn't want it in the house..He has some great stories about fighting in Normandy and the Scheldt

He was wounded one day, quite seriously and thought he might get invalided back to Canada. He heard the doctors say if he can breath and there is chance he will be back, he stays!.Some one had layed an SS zelt over him to keep him dry, and another soldier came along, thought he was German and kicked him in the ribs..talk about adding insult to injury!

..and yes, he has the zelt still..

IMHO, they are nice pieces with own character, even damaged- still valuable, with spirit of that period

Kursk, you are a very lucky man getting all those items along with their personal history.

About the wife... nevermind, moments like this one makes me get misogynist

This is an interesting thread. I really like the cut insignia as interesting relics in their own right.

Its sad to think that some of those visor/caps were half alright complete uniforms visors, caps cut up and thrown away for badges very sad.

When you think about it, it was actually harder to cut the insignia off on the visor caps than to simply pluck the eagles/wreaths off of the visor.....
