Thanks. very nice image. A1/4 was Clemens Wagner, Braunschweig/Hamburg, one of the main makers of such caps, especially in the period of rapid expansion in the SS.

Deschler badges ( I think...I did not pry the little devils off while the owner asked me to vet the thing) on an early cap made in Hamburg, the property of an SS officer in SW Germany who reputedly had allied fliers executed. The cap was later the trophy of an OSS man who was or was not involved in the trial of said SS officer at war's end. I am a skeptic of all such assertions, but the cap speaks wholly for itself. And its original owner is in the 1935 DAL. The cap has a Tellermuetze shape, typical of early leader caps.

the cap's interior, an especially well made piece, far superior to the later variety one sees more frequently (which is not very....) Its owner was commissioned in the Sta. 32 (Heidelberg) in early 1935, which also sort of corresponds to when the cap was likely made. The longer one is around this stuff, one finds a lot of it vacuumed out of what was the US zone of occupation, that is such places as Heidelberg and Munich...

"Stirndrueckfrei durch Gummipolster" = free of pressure on forehead via rubber pad

--but it sounds better in German.

There is another cap of this type in Texas which came with a black Stammabteilung uniform. It has an RFSS tag, which this one does not.

I believe this sort of cap was an early variety of RZM'd cap, i.e. from the 2d half of 1934 or so.

See excerpt from SS price list of 1934. The cap in question is item # 714, I think...
