I would ask the dealer for some closer/better photos inside and out. I would also ask him what he sees. He has a very good reputation from what I have been told so I am pretty sure he will understand your concerns.
My gut thinks it won't show anything definitive.
Thanks MAP,
I think I'm just gonna stick with it and check it out in hand. I think it will display nicely. If I end up not liking it for some reason, his return policy is good. Its priced at $460 which seems fair considering the eagle and other minor condition problems. Once he gets back ill shoot him an email asking him what he thinks about the eagle.

Hi Alek5k,
as to the cap eagle: I am no specialist for insignia, but I remember having seen such an eagle here:
Army hat eagle and Jager badge,,good or bad??
This is a rare, later war version of the eagle which does no longer have splints which were soldererd to the body but they were stamped out together with the body, so that they are visible. (You'll know what I mean when you look at the picture.)
Here is the more commen version (one splint already gone, as happens so often when the eagles are removed just to have a look at its back - so better don't remove it!):
Cap eagle pin ORIGINAL or FAKE?
