Very nice object. The assignment of lineage and honors of the old army began in Seeckt's Reichswehr ca. 1921 and with the enlargement of the Rw into the Wehrmacht was adjusted.
The variation of rayon or cotton lining of caps with one type in the crown and another on the sides is common to many caps, and is delineated in the RZM Herstellungsvorschriften.
The Danziger Hussaren wore a Pelzmuetze and a Schirmmuetze, the latter being for informal wear.
You friend's piece is a nice one.

Gorgeous, but ugh! I hate hearing that natural groupings like this have been broken up. Where's the respect for history? Some of my favourite threads are about pieces that gave been re-united through research and tenacity- Bob Coleman comes to mind in this regard...
