The standard-issue cap eagles and cockade wreaths were made of metal.

Hand-embroidered ones were a permitted option for private-purchase caps (however, for NCOs and other ranks, they were restricted for off-duty wear, while officers could wear them for all occasions).

An order of 16 November 1942 officially prohibited the manufacture of hand-embroidered cap badges for the duration of the war, although existing stocks were used up and worn out, so they were worn right up to the end of the war.

(Of course, all of this did not just apply to IR 17, but the whole army.)
Interesting,I didn`t know any of that,thanx......so I suppose the metal ones are rarer and more expensive?

I thought the red bullseye of the cockades were made of mesh for ventilation?

This was a feature of the ErEl caps for some time (when the war went on, there was no more time/material for such extras).

Looks like an M-45 Erel with a replaced sweatband.

The majority of IR17 visors for sale have had the TKs added after 1945 by unscrupulous sellers/dealers.

I prefer the ones with a makers mark linking the hat to Braunschweig (or Regtl stamps), along with a septum in the skull.

Can I ask you where you got those cap display stands Ricardo Victory Museum ?........ I`m finding it hard to find any which display the cap nicely without being too obtrusive...Can I see what they look like without any caps on them too? Are they glass or acrylic perspex? ...Thanx

Are there any variations in the designs of the correct totenkopf?
