Thanks for that Ben, now im more confused than before lol, but personally i would say the middle right looks to be the more defined and better detailed than all the others. The bottom left has a descrepency with the top wings looking straight on, the top right hand wing looks either too long or too short judging by the left wing, its confusing to me because i dont know how accurate the sewing had to be, were there RZM inspections carried out on these eagles, or were they sewn by eye using a template of sorts. That would account for various types of sewing but i wouldnt think the dimensions would be that different

    Hello all,

I at first was unsure of the eagle as it does seem of poor quality as compared to sleeve eagles found on SS uniforms and those found on caps of later manufacture. After comparison to other caps of this variant I am fairly confident that it is a genuine representation. I will post an interior shot shortly.

Ben, that is a great collection of eagles to use for reference. I think I can hazard a guess to the genuine ones.

    Regards,

    CMH

Hi Guys, it is a very nice cap.

It is a credit to this forum the way questions are asked.

The eagle I don't have a huge problem with. Some of these, while perfectly original, are a bit sketchy in nature and I can see why they can be questioned.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thank you Ade for your skilled assessment on this piece. We are all very fortunate to have advanced collectors take the time to offer their opinions on our collections and mentor those of us who are new and have questions. I truly mean this and owe especially you and other members of this forum a debt of gratitude for keeping me out of some really unfortunate situations.

Davejb, thank you for your delicate approach when questioning the article of interest here. Believe me when I say that you will never see me become cross when a question arises as to authenticity when it is relevant to our study of these items. I post here and here only for exactly this reason as one only has to visit some other forums for clear examples of harshness and lashing out as a result of hurt feelings.

    Best regards fellow collectors,

    CMH

CMH, thankyou for the post, and i am pleased that the question was accepted in the manner it was meant, i too enjoy this forum for exactly the same reasons as yourself, and i believe that if you have questions then ask, even after collecting for 45yrs there are subjects that still baffle me especially the numerous minefields concerning SS caps and hats and associated insignia, i would consider myself as a general collector being that i have never specialised in just one subject as most of the experts here but i suppose its the way i enjoy the collecting bug, a little knowledge about various subjects has kept me from making huge mistakes in the past, but like others have been burnt on occassions, that is why i consider this forum so important ,to enable a group of people of like minded persuasion to discuss and learn from each other and i hope that on occassions i have helped others to do that, kind regards Dave
