Hi, I'm wondering why there are no grommets and why there is an odd seam halfway down the side ? Could this be one of those caps made from re-purposed material like a great coat ? Just my opinion but it merits more scrutiny.

This example is fine, the cockade may be replaced tho...
If it has no grommets and has a seam half way down the side, it's because it's not of german manufacture, it was originally a dutch sidecap that has been factory reworked for a reissue in the german Heer.
