I am curious as to why the stem of the edelweiss shadow on this hat is pointing downward instead of 45 degree angle? Is the material used for this hat consistent with a Gebirgsjager hat? It looks pretty faded. Is this hat legit? You guys probably saw it on Ebay but I think I was the only bidder (red flag?). It does have a money back guarantee, so I took a chance on it.

    Hello,
The edelweiss positioned this way makes me think austrian rather than german...
    Thanks

im thinking austrian too due to the leather headband and more likely post war made ,if correct it would of had the austrian roundel affixed to the front

Thanks for your reply. Postwar? Darn......it was advertised as WW2. Anyway....not surprised.

If you look closely at the front of the cap it looks like it may have had a Heer eagle on there at one time, or is it my buggered eyes?...

I see an "outline" of something as well. And while somewhat consistent with a Heer Eagle it looks a bit "off". And I don't see any stitch holes. IMHO.

Well, I finally received it and revealed it to the wife for her stitching expertise. She said she could discern some stitching or holes in the middle of the front, but none where an adler or trap would be. Anyway, suspect postwar Austrian as suggested by a previous post. Since it was described as WW2 era, I can send it back.
