Genuine Color Piped SS Schirmutze

When I first was offered this cap, I was immediately skeptical as we all know that genuine color piped SS visor caps are very difficult to find. To my amazement, the cap, which was part of a grouping of material I obtained from an old collection, was genuine. It was also gray piped for a member of Himmler's personal staff. When I first joined this Forum, this cap was my first post. As these pictures are better than the original and I am sure our many new members have never seen this piece, I wanted to share it once again. The cap is a Marke Odd, which Stonemint discovered stood for the firm of Otto Dittman Mutzenfabrik, Dresden.

Otto Dittman caps are very nice with the 4 rows of cross stitching on the lining. I really love how that Deschler floats in the centre of an ocean of black velvet...stop me if I'm getting too poetic.

If the hat was produced during the period when waffenfarbe for Waffen SS caps was authorised, the light grey piping indicates a permanent member of the SS-Hauptamt offices.
Light grey was only for the RF-SS personal staff for about a month in 1942 before dark grey was designated for personal staff.
