I bought this cap for a fiver from a women's vintage clothes shop after seeing a beret in the window. It is in remarkably good condition apart from the obvious peak mishap and is dated 1939. It was hanging up minus the peak and I just assumed it was a fancy dress prop until I saw the makers mark on the inside of the sweatband. I asked after the peak but the girl said that's how she found it. I posted some pictures on a German cap forum with the intention of trying to buy a replacement peak from someone when the unexpected occured. I went back into the shop for a browse months later and the girl produced the peak from behind the counter. She said she'd found it at the bottom of a bag and kept it for me. How they'd become seperated I don't know. It's been sitting in a box ever since. It just needs a sypathetic repair and the badges replaced. Would it have had some sort of strap? Cheers.

Lucky old you ! A ww2 infantry other ranks service cap in nice condition as well.

A bargain and once the cap is fitted with the correct insignia, chinstrap and peak refitted it will be top notch !

The picture shows what it should look like, the insignia can be bought but will cost a little more than the cap !!

It's an authentic German Army Infantry enlisted mans service cap. Here's what it should look like with the insignia and chinstrap.
Let me know if you'd like me to sew it back together and I can probably help with some badges as well.

Great news, another cap has been saved !

The restoration of this cap now complete, it is back on the way to it's owner and pictures will follow at the weekend.

Hi,

The cap is now back with it's owner so here come the pics.....


First job was to re-stitch the peak and sweatband back on...these pictures were taken as soon as my fingers had stopped bleeding




Stage 2: find and add a wreath that fits into the original holes in the cap band....tricky but possible.



Stage 3: add the chinstrap, other ranks of course



Stage 4: Eagle on top of the crown to finish the transformation



Stage 5: Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
