    This time it's a Heer M42 cap that recently arrived. I've long read these were not popular with the troops, that the Schiffchen and later M43 Einheitsfeldmuetze were much more loved. However, I like it a lot. Tons of character that give it that "been there" look. It will go well with my salty officer's M38 Schiffchen that I posted a while back.

    A good cap and one that is not that common.

    Thank-you gentlemen. As I've said before, I admire minty items as much as most collectors, but I really enjoy items that were clearly worn by a soldier. The familiar concept of "if this thing could talk..." The item was a witness to history, versus sitting out the war in the backroom of a warehouse and never issued.

    Hello,
    thanks for sharing this piece of german headgear with us...nice been there look...
    A lot of these Feldmützen 42 were converted into an Einheitsfeldmütze once the latter has been released...and a part of the unissued production was redirected to factories in order to have a bill added...
    below is one of mine that was converted.

    As you can see, the "new" cap has some friends to hang out with.
