Bob is correct. The East German ones usually glow under blacklight as well.
However, it is common to find DDR cords on fakes (as in the bogus SS Panzer visor), simply because they are cheap, plentiful, and available in all sizes.
So, when a cap is cut down, the size often changes, requiring a new chincord--hence the DDR ones.
Reverse-twist originals are very rare.

Thank you for the information gents, in comparison to the above chincord example, the cords on my Artillery cap look to be in the opposite direction, Does that mean they are DDR? I'll have to check the inside of the knot tonight to see if it is metal or plastic.
