Silly question but it’s just to expand my knowledge, what makes this cap so rare?
Cheers,
Bodhi
The M-42 cap was manufactured and issued only for a short period of time. That makes any/all of them more rare than a Schiffchen or an M-43 cap. With regards to officer's versions, they are even rarer still. Not just because of the ratio of officer to enlisted, but also because the M-42 cap was unpopular. Officers were responsible for their own uniforms so few bothered to buy or acquire an unpopular M-42. They wore their M-38 cap, a visor cap, or a Feldmütze alter Art (Crusher) instead. That is, until the M-43 came out and they had a more popular headgear option for the field.

Thank you very much for answering my question Todd it’s much appreciated! I wasn’t aware that they weren’t very popular, thanks again for the helpful information. I guess it’s something else to look out for.
Cheers,
Bodhi
