Wow. I like this one very much.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated
My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

I think I'm seeing something that I have only seen a few times before. Are those stitches completely sewn down or are they loops? Bob Edwards talked about caps have loops for adding and removing soutache in a temporary fashion. I think I have a photo in one of his books. I've never owned one but have heard about it from him some years back.

Todd, good eye! Look like loops to these eyes. What year was the soutache removal order--'41?
“Show me the regulation, and I’ll show you the exception.”
HM 42, #527 dated 10 July 1942.
But as we know, many soldiers had pride in their branch and were loath to remove it... so many didn't.
When I discussed caps with these "Soutache retaining loops" with Bob Edwards, he was of the opinion that the soldier did it so that he could wear his branch color Soutache when safe to do so, but remove it when he would be in an area where regulations were likely to be more strictly enforced.

Thanks for the info and feedback
