    The Germans maintained their workmanship standards thru out the war. If that sweatband was made properly it would not be buckling up like that. That cap looks very doubtful to me.

    Cap is a real late-war Berolina, and was most likely made in 1945 and unissued.
    Sweatband is probably original to the hat.

    Heer Officers schirmmützeMr. Mint is quite right. This is a species of late war cap, and it does have its own poetry.
    I am sorry to disagree with the above that, in fact, the persons who likely made a cap in, say, 1937 or 1938, might have been drafted, and someone else, less skilled, even a slave laborer, might have had a part in making this cap. Many German firms had impressed or otherwise un free workers, and the complaints about the lack of skilled workers is constant. Likewise is the search for skilled laborers in wartime.
