Thanks for your input, yes I believe the soutache has been post war added, it is hand sewn, and I am not sure if it was common practice to add drying the war, and also how one can tell if it was post added ? The thread is a close match.
Just wondering if there is a way to tell.

Gary Wilkins book "The Collectors Guide to Cloth Third Reich Military Headgear" has a section on identifying soutaches. Its a good investment.

On authentic caps, the ends of the soutache through the seam near the base of the cap and the ends should be visible on the reverse. Also, the thread should be the same color and the soutache should be made of cotton.

Looks like yours was added to me, but when? I don't know.

Edit: (or shall I say "I'm an idiot"). I did not see the last picture with the ends going through. Not sure how I missed that....Still it looks a bit sloppy so hopefully others with more knowledge come by with opinions
