I have seen this hat before, I just cannot recall where.

The hat is an enigma, because it is a Form 4, but with earlier traits.

First, it has a rust-brown band, which is typical to Form 4
(Form 3 used Hellbraun, and 2 dark brown). However, it has the early RZM tag, which, imho, was not used past 1936. Also, it has both the maker tag and the RZM tag, something you see with early (form 2) visors. If I had to guess, it is a very early Form 3 upgraded with insignia to meet the 1939 standards--but I still can't figure out the Rostbraun band--there is always the remote possibility that a thrifty Orts member had his tailor replace the early band, but I would need interior "under the hood" shots to make and opinion.

Looking at it again, it maybe the flash of the camera making it look rust-braun. Looks to have a lederschirm.

"Lederschirm" = Leather peak.

Yes--they are much less common than Vulkanfiber.
