Yup - the eagle is only held on by two exterior pins! When I first picked it up it almost fell off.

I'll also have another look at the visor tomorrow Chris. This came from a home which has a bunch of other misc parts for caps including visors. It could be tinkered with that way but I'd have to double check.
Just one other observation: the way the visor is attached to the cap is very British/American, the fabric is wound around it at the edges, the visors of German caps usually are simply sewn to the centerband without this feature.
