My new SS Schirmmütze

The biography of such cap fits either into one of two stories: it was worn by an SS man for a short period before his recruitment into the Wehrmacht or perhaps Waffen SS, or it was never issued at all, as part of the expansion of the SS in the years immediately prior to the war's outbreak and the endurance of the Allgemeine SS into the war years on a rapidly shrinking basis save in the newly annexed areas as in this image I have included and such endured into the year 1940 or so.

Some caps have an VA issue mark, which is the exception.

Is there a larger resolution version available? Do I see a rather prominent Mensur scar on the guy looking at the camera?

The source of the image is present on it. You should go to Heidelberg or Vienna and join such a Burschenschaft.
