Needing help Identifying U-Boat sidecap
Hello and thank you for looking at my post.
Im stumped on this KM sidecap. I attempted research on a number of occasions to see if this was a flotilla insignia or an individual boat. I found no flotilla with this insignia. Thus, I looked for an individual boat to no evail. Numerous U-boats😩
It appears to be a rhino in the foreground
Well, that's one strange looking rhino. Looks like it has a pigstail and the ears of a bear. Sorry, can't help you out with the flotilla or individual U-boot.
It is indeed a pig - look at the snout.

several pigs here, unfortunately no maching one.
I was thinking rhino or pig. Looks like a horn at the tip of the snout. U-boats were also called pig boats. Pig makes sense.
It's a pig indeed. I have never heard the term "pig boats", but pigs were and are a popular symbol of good luck in Germany.
Anyway, it's the emblem/badge for U-296 (lost with all hands in March 1945).
