    Dean-
I have been collecting since 1956. These were always rare. However in years past, there were also far fewer collectors. The Internet has turned collecting upside down.

Dean the one i posted below is listed for $7.400. I would never spend so much money on anything.
She's a real beauty all right but out of my price range! PHEW! If anyone has an extra or knows of a dealer with the crash helmet alone, please let me know!

Digger are you referring to something like this?
I like that one. Is this in your collection? Did all the manufacturers make these with little "nipple" at the top? Mine doesn't have one, so I was just curious about that. Thanks.

Hi Dean, usually it should have the "stem" on the top. It might have been cut off.

    Cheers, Ade.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your beret tam. It is the most common type, if any can be called common. Here are two specimens done in the more subdued silver/gray embroidery. The SS insignia is zig-zag stitched on, while the Heer insignia is straight stitched. So far there are only a couple of known examples of the gray Heer insignia originally mounted. The tam is also stamped 1940.

The crash helmets do pop up for sale every once in a while, but usually go fast.

As a practical matter, I do not understand how the Pz men were able to make do w/o the beret. An M-43/Schiffchen/Visor cap aren't going to give you any %age of protection as compared to the Beret.

Must be simply that German penchant for style over practicality!
