question about cap in period photo

Hello all,

Is it safe to say the Sturmbannführer on the right is wearing a "field made cap" manufactured by a company tailor? It's modeled after the M40 without buttons on the front, correct?

It doesnt look like the M43s i usually see around. So that leave us with "custom made". Could have been made by a tailor in one of the occupied citys as well.
