I share your sentiment, but I am always warned about the trap of nostalgia.

All the same, I have always been nostalgic. As a very, very young person in a great and fabled city, I saw the remnants of the 19th century in my four or five year old eyes as something marvelous. The red brick paving stones and the wonderful rails from the traction railway thrilled me, but also made me sad that these marvelous things had all but disappeared. Every time my Apple computer breaks, I wish it could be crushed under the wheels of one of these machines. Steam railways disappeared
when I was a child, and that was a thing of great melancholy to me.

I am now in the final stage of life, and what I have done here might endure. The reckoning is at hand for those who are not made of nails, and I know many young people, who are my friends, who are made of stern stuff who have fought these wars since 11 September and I look to them to fix what my generation has ruined.
